MBTI FOR ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT
Using the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI) As a Tool
In today's business climate, organizations are in a state of continual change, which must be led by leaders who understand how to communicate with their team members. These individuals may have different personality types, resulting in different approaches to situations, and different communication styles. The Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator is an invaluable resource in supporting organization communication, leadership development, team building and emotional intelligence, through stimulating insights into personal styles and behavior patterns. Therefore, BEAN&BEAN workshops may include use of the MBTI personality type indicator, which is based upon the personality theories of Carl Jung, and which has been in widespread international use for over 25 years. Participants voluntarily complete the questionnaire prior to the seminar, and individual results are shared with each participant confidentially. Both Dr. Cindy Bean and Dr. Andrew Bean are trained and qualified to use MBTI.
BEAN&BEAN Consulting, Inc., is headquartered in the Sarasota/Bradenton (Tampa Bay) area of Florida, and focuses on supporting organization development needs of companies in the Southeast USA. All our associates have advanced degrees and are experienced public speakers and workshop trainers.

Illustrative One-day Team Building Seminar
A recent program conducted by BEAN&BEAN Consulting for a multi-national technology company consisted of a one day workshop for the team of managers from functional areas within a global division. These managers are located at different sites, but have global responsibilities within their functional areas. To improve team performance through better coordination and collaboration, BEAN&BEAN:
- Surveyed the team members to better identify issues associated with the team, such as trust, roles and responsibilities, and communication
- Had team members complete the MBTI instrument, so as to identify their Myers-Briggs Personality Type
- Conducted a one day seminar in Florida for all team members. The first half focused on understanding how to use insights from MBTI to improve communication and collaboration. The second half consisted of a facilitated discussion of roles and responsibilities, developing a set of priority next steps.
- BEAN&BEAN followed up with team members one month and three months after the workshop to reinforce team commitments and to obtain feedback on workshop success. Some comments by workshop participants.
** Alternative Option - BUILDING YOUR TEAM COMMUNICATION SKILLS
If a team communication focus is desired rather than an individual-interaction focus, the communication skills approach developed by Robert Kegan and Lisa Laskow Lahey (in the book “How We Talk Can Change the Way We Work”, 2001, Harvard Business School Press) can be substituted for the MBTI segments of this seminar.
The Meyers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator was developed by Isabel Briggs Meyers and Katherine Briggs, and has been in use for some 60 years.
