ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT THROUGH LEADERS AND TEAMS
Training to Develop High Performance Teams
In today's business climate, organizations thrive through using teams to develop new products, identify and implement programs, improve quality, increase productivity, and solve problems. This workshop training focuses on the roles of team player and team leader, both essential to creating a high performance team. The emphasis is on how team members can complement, challenge, and inspire one another to new performance heights. Participants may complete a voluntary personality assessment, such as Myers-Briggs (MBTI)*, to help them evaluate their own strengths as a team player and as a team leader.
Through the training program, participants will learn the nuts and bolts of teams, and how to:
- Put skills into practice with team performance and results in mind
- Apply their team skills to their interactions with others
Workshop training topics include:
- What is a team?
- How do teams form, storm, norm and perform?
- Why professionals seek to improve their team member and team leadership skills
- Linking team skills to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality model* - making your TEAM BUILDING SKILLS work for you!**

About the workshop leaders
Illustrative One-day Training Program for Team Building and High Performance
A recent training program conducted by BEAN&BEAN Consulting for a multi-national technology company consisted of a one day workshop for the team of managers from functional areas within a global division. These managers are located at different sites, but have global responsibilities within their functional areas. To improve team performance through better coordination and collaboration, BEAN&BEAN:
- Surveyed the team members to better identify issues associated with the team, such as trust, roles and responsibilities, and communication
- Had team members complete the MBTI instrument, so as to identify their Myers-Briggs Personality Type
- Conducted a one day workshop in Florida for all team members. The first half focused on understanding how to use insights from MBTI to improve communication and mutual trust, and hence productive collaboration, . The second half consisted of a facilitated discussion of roles and responsibilities, developing a set of priority next steps.
- BEAN&BEAN followed up with team members one month and three months after the workshop to reinforce team commitments and to obtain feedback on workshop success. Some comments by workshop participants.
Team-Building Workshops Update
Training in High Performance Leadership Skills
Successful leadership is dependent upon followership; thus, leadership is a relationship. Leadership development is directed toward enhancing the learner's capacity to engage in relationships to successfully lead people. Leaders establish a goal and guide others to achieve that goal. Leaders function as learners, pathfinders and mentors. This seminar training is designed to improve personal and professional effectiveness by learning how to establish relationships that inspire, motivate and guide others to achieve results.
In this training session, participants will learn the nuts and bolts of leadership, and how to:
- Put leadership skills into practice with organizational performance in mind
- Apply their leadership skills to their interactions with others
Topics include:
- What is a leader? What is a follower? Leadership as relationship.
- How do successful leaders lead and successful followers follow?
- Why professionals want to improve their leadership skills – moving between follower and leader roles.
- Linking leadership models and skills to everyday life – making YOUR LEADERSHIP skills work for you!*
* Can be customized especially for female leaders. Can also be enhanced to include voluntary use of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality assessment instrument as appropriate to the goals of the participants and organization. Dr. Cindy Bean and Dr. Andrew Bean are both qualified MBTI professionals. Alternatively, tools such as the Kouzes & Posner Leadership Practices Inventory may be incorporated, according to the client's needs.
Illustrative Recent Leadership Training Program
Recently, BEAN&BEAN was asked by a southeastern regional organization to help a team of divisional managers to build leadership skills and raise the level of organizational performance. To accomplish these objectives, BEAN&BEAN delivered a two-part training program. First, a speech was presented to the team at a regular dinner meeting. The purpose of this was to introduce members to the organization development concepts and challenges. Team members were also asked to complete MBTI instruments. The workshop customized for the company used MBTI (i.e. the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator) as a tool for participants to gain insights on leadership behaviors. A facilitated discussion at the end of the workshop developed a set of priority next steps. These will be reinforced by BEAN&BEAN over the following months, and will also be used as a measure of program success. Some comments by workshop participants.
This program for achieving high performance and leading change has been certified for 4 CEU's by the Florida Department of Health. More details
Leadership Workshops Update
* This seminar includes use of the MBTI Myers=Briggs personality type indicator, based upon the personality theories of Carl Jung. Participants voluntarily complete the questionnaire prior to the seminar. Individual results are shared with each participant confidentially. Dr. Cindy Bean and Dr. Andrew Bean are each qualified MBTI professionals.
** Alternative Option - BUILDING YOUR TEAM COMMUNICATION SKILLS
If a team communication focus is desired rather than an individual-interaction focus, the communication skills approach developed by Robert Kegan and Lisa Laskow Lahey (in the book “How We Talk Can Change the Way We Work”, 2001, Harvard Business School Press) can be substituted for the MBTI segments of this workshop.
